Kata · Recreate an edit

Recreate any edit, starring your cast

Kata watches an edit you like, finds every cut, camera move and caption, then makes it again with your people or your product in every shot. To test it I ran our "Main Character" edit with a new lead and compared the two side by side.

Opens Kata with the Main Character edit picked. Add your lead, and Kata shows the plan and the price before it makes anything.

The remake: same eight cuts, same caption, same beat. The original starred someone else. Unretouched.

Three steps, start to finish

  1. 1

Pick a ready-made edit or add your own video, 4 to 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Add your lead, your cast or your product photos.

  3. 3

Kata plans every shot, shows the price, then makes the remake.

The usual way: rebuild it by hand

To copy a trending edit you normally rewatch it frame by frame, write down every cut, film or generate each shot, then line them up on the beat in an editor. A ten second edit with eight cuts can eat an afternoon.

What I saw with Kata

Kata read the original, planned one shot per cut and kept the same timing to the frame. The caption kept its words, its style and its place on screen. Only the person changed.

  • Every cut lands where it did in the original.
  • The turn to camera, the walk and the trophy moment keep their framing.
  • Pro tip: a clear, front-facing photo of your lead keeps their face the same in every shot.

Bring your own edit

The ready-made edits are the quickest start. You can also add any video you have the rights to, from 4 to 60 seconds, and Kata recreates that instead. Product edits take a product photo in place of a person.

Rather just ask? Tell Sensei, our AI director, what to make and it plans, renders and cuts the whole thing.

Questions people ask

What does Kata copy from the original?

The cut points, the camera moves, the transitions, the caption style and the pace. The original footage and music never appear in your remake.

Can I use my own video as the edit?

Yes. Add a video from 4 to 60 seconds that you have the rights to, and Kata recreates it with your cast.

Can I put a product in it instead of a person?

Yes. Product edits like Product Drop and Unboxing take a product photo, and Kata shows it in every shot.

What does a Kata cost?

Kata is included in every plan, from $10/mo. Planning is free, and Kata shows the price before it makes anything. You approve it first.

Can I use a character I already made?

Yes. Pick a saved Character Studio character as your lead, or type @Name in the notes.
