Lantern Row Night Market

A portrait festival poster on cream, fiber-flecked paper announces Lantern Row as a night market. Across the top, a double string of round paper lanterns in warm gold hangs from thin orange cords, their ribbed forms suggesting screen-printed ink with slight misregistration. Dominating the center is a large, flat disc of burnt orange, like a printed sun, behind stacked condensed sans-serif type in deep navy: LANTERN ROW. Below, smaller navy lettering states NIGHT MARKET and the date FRIDAY 18 OCTOBER, 7 PM TO MIDNIGHT. A solid teal band runs the full width of the foot, holding three cream phrases—Street food, Live brass band, Lantern making—set in a modest geometric sans. The palette is tightly controlled: cream ground, orange-gold lanterns and sun, navy type, and a single stripe of teal. Texture of paper grain and halftone dots gives the piece a tactile, analog print-shop character rather than digital smoothness. The mood is festive and civic, closer to mid-century civic screenprints and contemporary risograph event graphics than to photographic advertising. Composition is axial and spare: lanterns as a decorative frieze, the sun as a monumental badge, type as architecture, the teal bar as a practical footer. It reads as an invitation to an evening of food, music, and making under hanging lights.
