Fox Beneath Paper Aurora

A red fox stands in profile on a rolling snowfield, head lifted toward a sky of overlapping paper ribbons. The animal is cut from warm orange and rust stock, with a white chest, dark legs, and a white-tipped tail that echoes the snow. Layered evergreen silhouettes in forest green, teal, and midnight blue recede behind it, their edges catching faint snow caps as if each tree were a separate sheet of card. Above, the aurora is built from concentric, undulating bands of violet, magenta, emerald, and cyan that sweep across a deep navy night. Small gold stars puncture the dark layers, giving the sky a quiet sparkle without breaking the paper-cut illusion. Soft shadows between planes create genuine depth, so the forest feels both graphic and tactile. The palette is crisp winter: cool whites and icy blues against saturated fox orange and jewel-toned lights. The mood is still and watchful, a children’s-book quiet that still reads as sophisticated collage. The work sits in the lineage of Scandinavian paper craft and contemporary cut-paper illustration, where every silhouette is both silhouette and sculpture.
