Some Things Keep Warm

A four-panel comic in clean ligne claire style follows a rusty garden robot and a red fox through one autumn night. In the first panel the robot kneels at dusk among pumpkins, lamp-eyes glowing against a gradient sky, and warns of frost. The second panel isolates the fox beneath broad green leaves, its amber fur and white muzzle catching the last light as it answers it will stay. Night arrives in the third panel: the robot lifts a patched canvas coat over the fox and the gourds while stars prick a deep blue sky. Dawn in the fourth panel shows frost glittering on grass and pumpkins; only the coat and the sleeping fox remain unfrosted, the robot’s metal still warm enough to hold the animal in its lap. Bold black outlines and flat, saturated colors—rust orange, pumpkin gold, leaf green, twilight blue—keep every shape readable. Lighting shifts from warm dusk to cool starlight to pale sunrise, mapping the passage of hours without extra exposition. The mood is quiet and companionable, a small act of care against the cold. The composition uses a strict two-by-two grid and white gutters so each moment lands with equal weight, echoing classic European comics while remaining wholly contemporary.
