Ronin Across Stormy Rooftops

A grey-bearded wandering swordsman in a wide straw hat and tattered indigo coat races along the ridge of a rain-slick temple roof. His body leans forward in mid-stride, yellow tabi flashing, coat tails snapping behind him while a sheathed blade rides at his hip. Below, paper lanterns glow gold against dark tiled eaves; above, a deep indigo night is sliced by rain falling in thick diagonal streaks. The low-angle composition places the viewer among the wet clay tiles, emphasizing speed and precarious height. Cel-shaded figures sit against hand-painted architectural masses whose silhouettes recede into storm-darkened distance. Lighting is cinematic: cool moonlight and rain-sheen on the tiles, warm lantern spill in the streets, with the suggestion of lightning waiting just beyond the frame. The palette is almost entirely nocturnal blues and slate greys, punctuated by the straw gold of the kasa, the red of the inner lining, and those small lanterns. Mood is taut and kinetic—classic anime adventure filtered through a painterly night sequence, equal parts isolation and momentum.
