WAN 2.7 Image Prompting Guide

WAN 2.7 Image.
Standard and Pro from one tool.

WAN 2.7 Image is the image-generation side of the WAN family — Standard and Pro tiers, six aspect ratios, strong on cinematic compositions and atmospheric subjects. Same naming conventions and prompt language as WAN 2.7 Video.

WAN 2.7 Image hero — cinematic lighthouse storm

Overview

WAN 2.7 Image is Alibaba's flagship image generation model — the image-side sibling of WAN 2.7 Video. Two tiers (Standard for everyday work, Pro for hero shots), six aspect ratios, and strong cinematic / atmospheric output by default. Same prompt language carries between WAN Image and WAN Video.

Standard tier is the production sweet spot — fast turnaround, strong quality, low credit cost. Pro tier trades cost for marginal extra fidelity, recommended for material-driven subjects (skin texture, fabric weave, food surface) and hero shots. Both tiers share the same aspect ratios and feature surface.

Key Features

Cinematic by Default
Atmospheric, painterly, photoreal

Cinematic by Default

WAN 2.7 Image produces strong cinematic output from sparse prompts — atmospheric lighting, painterly composition, photographic depth. Particularly good on landscape, architectural, and weather-driven subjects where atmosphere is the headline.

Strong on Portraits
Documentary + editorial

Strong on Portraits

WAN 2.7 Image handles portraits with naturalistic skin texture, expression, and environmental composition. Pro tier sharpens skin and clothing detail further. Works for both documentary realism (artisans, tradespeople, candid) and editorial portraiture.

Architectural Subjects
Clean geometry + interior light

Architectural Subjects

Strong on architecture — interior and exterior. Midcentury houses with floor-to-ceiling glass, modernist concrete, traditional vernacular. Pair time-of-day cue + lighting language for cinematic atmospheric shots.

Food + Lifestyle
Material rendering

Food + Lifestyle

Food editorial and lifestyle photography read clean — pasta texture, ceramic glaze, wood grain, fabric, glass. Pair 'food editorial photography' as an aesthetic anchor with explicit items and surfaces for restaurant-grade output.

Cinematic Lighthouse Storm

Cinematic Lighthouse Storm

Standard · 16:9 · 1 credit

Cinematic wide shot of a lighthouse on a rocky cliff during a violent storm, massive waves crashing below, dramatic gray-green sky, the beam cutting through rain, painterly photoreal, hyper-detailed

16:9 cinematic + weather-driven dramatic atmospheric subject. WAN reads "cinematic wide shot" + "dramatic gray-green sky" as compositional and palette targets. The light-beam-through-rain element gives one cinematic detail to anchor the scene.

Documentary Portrait

Documentary Portrait

Standard · 3:4 · 1 credit

Photoreal portrait of a tattooed motorcycle mechanic in a sunlit garage, sleeve tattoos visible, wiping grease from hands with a rag, warm golden afternoon light, documentary photography style

"Documentary photography style" anchors framing toward naturalistic candid composition. WAN handles tattoo detail, grease, and warm afternoon light cleanly. Specific action ("wiping grease from hands") gives a clear pose rather than generic standing portrait.

Midcentury Architecture

Midcentury Architecture

Standard · 16:9 · 1 credit

Wide architectural shot of a midcentury modern house at twilight, warm interior lights glowing through floor-to-ceiling glass, deep blue sky transitioning to orange at the horizon, cool grass landscape

"Twilight" + "warm interior lights" + "deep blue sky transitioning to orange" — three lighting elements layered. WAN composes the warm-cool color contrast cleanly. Midcentury architecture is a strong genre match for WAN's atmospheric defaults.

Italian Food Editorial

Italian Food Editorial

Standard · 1:1 · 1 credit

Overhead flat lay of a traditional Italian pasta dinner — fresh tagliatelle with truffle, rustic bread, glasses of red wine on a weathered oak table, warm candlelight, food editorial photography

"Overhead flat lay" + named items + named surface + lighting anchor + genre anchor. WAN renders pasta texture, wine, bread crust, and oak grain cleanly at 1:1. "Food editorial photography" closes the prompt with composition direction.

Prompting Tips

Default to Standard tier

Standard tier is the production sweet spot — fast, strong quality, low credit cost. Most production work lives here. Move to Pro only for hero shots where the marginal extra fidelity (skin texture, food surface, fabric weave) is visible.

WAN family vocabulary carries

Same prompt language works between WAN 2.7 Image and WAN 2.7 Video — 'painterly cinematic', 'atmospheric', 'documentary photography style', specific lighting cues. If you've prompted WAN Video, you already know the WAN Image vocabulary.

Layer lighting elements

"Twilight, warm interior lights, deep blue sky transitioning to orange" — list lighting elements as a sequence (multi-source, transitional, color-graded). WAN composes the color contrast cleanly when given specific lighting structure.

Atmospheric anchors over technical

"Cinematic", "atmospheric", "painterly photoreal", "documentary photography style" work better than camera-stack technical anchors. WAN responds to aesthetic vocabulary more reliably than equipment vocabulary.

Named items for food / product

"Fresh tagliatelle with truffle, rustic bread, red wine" beats "Italian dinner". List the specific items and the surface. WAN composes the layout intentionally when given specific ingredients/products to place.

Aspect by composition

16:9 for cinematic landscapes and architecture. 3:4 for portraits. 1:1 for food / product social. 9:16 for vertical / mobile. Generate at the right aspect — WAN composes differently per ratio.

FAQ

Same family, different modality. WAN 2.7 Image generates static images; WAN 2.7 Video generates clips. Same Alibaba family aesthetic carries across. Same prompt language works for both — useful when you want the same aesthetic in your static and motion content.
