DomoAI alternative

DomoAI alternative: restyle your footage as anime, three ways

Pixel Dojo restyles a clip on Kling Video Edit, Seedance 2.5 Video Edit or WAN 2.7 Video Edit, shows each credit price before you run it, and can make the source footage for you first.

DomoAI is best known for turning real footage into anime. We tested that job on our side: we made a live action clip of a cyclist on a seaside promenade, then restyled the same clip on three video edit engines with one prompt.

13 credits ($0.81) per 2 s clip at 1080p. Included in every plan, from $10/month.

Restyle the whole clip as hand painted 1990s anime: a cel shaded figure with clean ink outlines, a watercolor sea and sky, soft pastel sunset light. Keep the woman, her bicycle, the red scarf blowing in the wind, the sea wall, the camera move and the timing the same.

More stylized animation we made on Pixel Dojo

Every clip and image below was made from the prompt shown. Tap one to start from it.

Hand painted anime made from text alone on Kling 3.0, with rain and water sound.

Hand painted anime style: a small paper boat races down a rain filled gutter past glowing shop fronts at dusk, splashing through ripples, petals swirling in the current, soft pastel clouds, cel shading. Sound: rain, rushing water and a distant wind chime.

A cel shaded anime still on Seedream 5 for 2.5 credits. Animate it next with any image to video model.

Cel shaded anime illustration of a night ferry deck strung with paper lanterns, a man in a long navy coat leaning on the rail and watching a glowing harbor city across calm water, warm amber and teal palette, painted clouds and stars.

Claymation on WAN 3.0 with sound, for 10 credits.

Claymation stop motion: a round clay hedgehog lays out a tiny checkered picnic blanket under a paper toadstool and sets down a thimble sized teacup, visible fingerprints in the clay, warm afternoon light. Sound: soft squelches and a little whistle.

A 3D cartoon shot on MiniMax H3 with bouncy, expressive animation.

Stylized 3D cartoon shot of a chubby penguin chef in a white hat stirring a big pot of soup in a snowy roadside diner, steam puffing up, snow falling past the window, cozy warm light, bouncy expressive animation.

The usual advice: go to DomoAI for anime video

Ask around for a way to turn a video into anime and DomoAI comes up first. Its home page leads with restyling existing footage into anime, realistic or any style, and it says it has more than 5,000,000 active users.

We think the better question is which engine, because restyling is a matter of taste. One model draws clean ink outlines, another paints soft watercolor, another keeps the real face under a painted filter. So we ran one clip on three of them and let you see.

One seaside ride, restyled on three engines

We generated a 5 second live action clip on Seedance 2.5, then sent it to three video edit models with the same anime prompt. Each tile shows its settings and credits.

Medium tracking shot of a woman in a mustard cardigan riding a bicycle along a seaside promenade at golden hour, her red scarf trailing behind her, gulls overhead, waves breaking against the sea wall. Sound: the tick of the bike chain, gulls and surf.

  • WAN 2.7 Video Edit gave the truest anime look, with clean ink lines, bright watercolor water and a big sunset sun, and it cost 23 credits, the least of the three.
  • Kling Video Edit painted the softest version, like a watercolor storyboard, and returned it at 1080p for 28 credits.
  • Seedance 2.5 Video Edit stayed closest to the original, keeping a realistic face under painted color. Use it when you want a light stylized touch.
  • All three kept the camera move, the bicycle and the red scarf whipping behind her in time with the source clip.

When DomoAI is the better pick

If you restyle a lot of video every month and can wait in a queue, DomoAI's Relax mode is a real draw. On Standard, Pro and Team it runs its own DomoAI 2.5 and 2.4.1 models and several image models without using credits, with longer waits.

DomoAI also has its own templates and effects, from AI Hug to 360 View, and talking avatars up to 60 seconds on its Pro plan.

If you want to choose the engine for each clip, see the price before you run it, and have a refund window on your first purchase, we think Pixel Dojo is the safer bet.

How we would build an anime clip from scratch

  • Shoot it with a prompt

No footage? Generate the live action shot first on Seedance 2.5 or Kling 3.0, as we did with the promenade ride.

  • Restyle on the engine that fits

Bold anime on WAN 2.7 Video Edit, watercolor on Kling Video Edit, a light touch on Seedance 2.5 Video Edit.

  • Or go straight to anime

Text to video models draw anime directly from a prompt. Our paper boat clip on Kling 3.0 never had a live action version.

  • Keep the character

Save your lead in Character Studio and call them by @name, so every shot shows the same face.

What a restyled clip costs on Pixel Dojo

Plans are Lite $10 a month for 160 credits, Pro $25 for 500 credits, Pro Max $50 for 1,100 credits. Every plan includes every model and commercial use.

Our 5 second source clip cost 30 credits, and the three restyles cost 23, 28 and 45 credits. Every tile lists its own price.

Under our refund policy, a first purchase can be refunded within 7 days, in full if under 20% of the credits are used and pro-rated after that.
