Powtoon alternative
Powtoon alternative: animated explainers written as a prompt
Pixel Dojo generates explainer animation, presenters, mascots and whiteboard frames from a written brief on the leading video and image models, with the credit price shown before every clip and commercial use on every plan.
Powtoon taught millions of people to build explainers from templates and a timeline. AI video changes the first step: you describe the scene and the model animates it. We wrote one flat 2D brief about savings growing and ran it on three engines.
30 credits ($1.88) per 5 s clip at 720p with audio. Included in every plan, from $10/month.

What Powtoon is, in plain terms
Powtoon is an online editor for animated presentations, whiteboard explainers, infographic videos and footage based videos. It says more than 50 million people use it and that 118 million Powtoons have been made.
You build a video from templates, a character builder and a timeline, and its paid plans add AI tools: doc to video, text to video, avatars with lip sync, text to speech, a scriptwriter, captions and translation.
Explainer pieces we made on Pixel Dojo
Every clip and image below was made on Pixel Dojo with the prompt shown.
A training video presenter on Kling 3.0, with her welcome line in the clip.
Medium shot of a friendly trainer in her thirties with curly hair and a teal cardigan standing beside a large wall screen in a bright open office, turning to the camera and gesturing at the screen as she says, "Welcome aboard. Your first week starts with three short videos, so grab a coffee." Steady camera, soft daylight. Sound: her voice and a quiet office murmur.
An isometric process scene on Kling 3.0 for a logistics explainer.
Isometric 3D cartoon diorama of a tiny warehouse cut away like a dollhouse: little workers in orange vests roll parcels down a curving chute, a forklift lifts a pallet onto a shelf, and a delivery van drives out of the loading door. Soft clay like shading, pastel colors, slow camera drift. Sound: light marimba music and small mechanical clicks.

A brand mascot on Nano Banana 2.1 for 1.5 credits. Save it in Character Studio and reuse it in every video.
Flat vector mascot illustration for an explainer video: a friendly round robot with an orange body, a light blue screen face showing two dot eyes and a smile, short stubby arms with one hand waving, standing on a plain white background. Thick clean outlines, simple shading, cheerful brand character style, no text.

A whiteboard explainer frame on GPT Image 2.5 with all four labels spelled correctly.
Hand drawn whiteboard explainer frame in black and blue dry erase marker: a simple diagram of how rain forms, with a sun, a sea with wavy lines, arrows rising as vapor, a puffy cloud, rain falling on a hill and a river flowing back to the sea. Four neat hand lettered labels: "SUN", "VAPOR", "CLOUD", "RAIN". White board texture, light smudges.
How an AI explainer clip gets made
A template editor asks you to place every object and key every move. A video model works from a description instead. You name the style (flat 2D vector, pale mint background), the objects (a seed packet, a sprout, a bar chart, a coin and a jar), the order they happen in and the sound.
The model draws and animates all of it in one pass. What you give up is frame by frame control; what you get is a finished shot in minutes. We write explainer prompts as a short storyboard in one paragraph and keep text out of the frame, then add titles and voiceover in the edit.
For a whole video, Film Studio takes it further: script, cast, storyboard and clips in one place, with an editor pass that trims every shot.
One savings explainer on three video engines
We gave the same flat 2D brief to Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1 Fast and WAN 3.0, with music and sound effects on. Each tile shows the settings and credits it used.
Flat 2D motion graphics explainer in a clean vector style on a pale mint background: a small seed packet sits on a desk, a green sprout pops out of it and grows into a plant whose three leaves turn into the rising bars of a bar chart, then a round gold coin drops into a glass jar beside it. Smooth easing, bold simple shapes, no words or numbers. Sound: a cheerful plucked ukulele tune, a soft pop and a coin clink.

- Seedance 2.5 followed the brief most closely, step by step: the packet, the sprout, the bars rising and the coin landing in the jar.
- Veo 3.1 Fast gave the boldest, cleanest shapes and the fastest pacing, finishing in 4 seconds for 18 credits.
- WAN 3.0 changed scenes partway, from the plant to a chart with a rising arrow, and it was the cheapest at 10 credits.
- All three held the flat vector look and the pale green palette, so cuts between them would match.

When Powtoon is the better pick
If you need a 10 or 20 minute training video with slides, screen recording, brand locked templates and team approvals, Powtoon is built for that, and we would point you there.
Powtoon also has an Education plan, $8 a month billed yearly, and enterprise features for brand control. A video model will not replace a full timeline editor for long, text heavy lessons.
For short animated explainers, ads and social clips, we think writing the scene and letting a model animate it is faster, and the results on this page show the range.
What our explainer test cost
Plans are Lite $10 a month for 160 credits, Pro $25 for 500 credits, Pro Max $50 for 1,100 credits. Every plan includes every model.
The three takes cost 30 credits on Seedance 2.5 for 5 seconds, 18 credits on Veo 3.1 Fast for 4 seconds and 10 credits on WAN 3.0 for 5 seconds.
Under our refund policy, a first purchase can be refunded within 7 days, in full if under 20% of the credits are used and pro-rated after that.
