Lensa alternative
Lensa alternative: one cafe selfie, four AI portrait engines
Pixel Dojo turns one photo into a styled portrait on Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2, Kling Image or Qwen Image 2, lets you try a new look with a sentence, and keeps the result as a character you can reuse in any prompt.
Lensa is a selfie editor that also sells Magic Avatars packs. We ran a small case study: one everyday cafe snapshot, one avatar style, four engines, then a haircut and a space portrait from the same photo.
4.5 credits ($0.28) per image at 2K. Included in every plan, from $10/month.

The case: a plain selfie that needs to become an avatar
Most people come to Lensa with a phone photo, not a studio portrait. So we started with exactly that: a man in his forties at a cafe table, flat window light, a coffee cup and keys in front of him.
Our brief was one classic avatar style, a Renaissance oil portrait with a velvet doublet and a ruff collar. The test is simple. Does it still look like him?
More from the same selfie, and one new portrait
We made each image below on Pixel Dojo with the prompt shown. Tap one to start from it.

The starting photo for this case study, an everyday snapshot made on Nano Banana 2.1.
Casual phone snapshot of a man in his forties with a salt and pepper beard and a navy crewneck sweater sitting at a small cafe table by a window, looking at the camera with a slight smile, flat overcast light, everyday selfie look, slightly soft focus.

A hair try-on in one sentence on Nano Banana 2.1: new cut, same face, same cafe.
Same photo, same man, same sweater, cafe and light: only change his hair to a short textured crop that is darker at the sides, keep his beard and face exactly as they are.

A sci fi avatar on Kling Image for 1 credit.
Turn this photo into a cinematic sci fi portrait of the same man: keep his face and beard, dress him in a plain white space suit with no patches, flags or lettering, helmet under his arm, inside a spacecraft cabin with a blue planet glowing through the round window behind him, cool rim light.

A golden hour portrait on Seedream 5, the kind of warm look Lensa sells as an effect.
Golden hour portrait of a woman in her thirties with dark curly hair in a rust linen shirt standing in a wheat field, the sun flaring just behind her shoulder, warm film tones, soft halo glow, 85mm lens.
One selfie, one avatar brief, four engines
We gave four image editors the same photo and the same instruction. Each tile shows the settings and credits it used.

Turn this photo into a Renaissance oil painting portrait of the same man: keep his face, beard and gentle smile, dress him in a dark velvet doublet with a white ruff collar, plain dark green background, soft Rembrandt light, visible brush strokes and fine craquelure.

- Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2 and Kling Image all kept his face, beard and gentle smile, so the avatar reads as the same man.
- Kling Image followed the dark green background from the brief most closely, for 1 credit.
- GPT Image 2 cropped tightest on the face, the best of the four for a profile picture.
- Qwen Image 2 painted the richest velvet and brush texture but drifted furthest from his face, so we would use it for art, not likeness.
What else we did with the same photo
Lensa offers hair try-on on its site. We asked Nano Banana 2.1 for a shorter, darker crop and got the same man at the same table with only his hair changed.
Then we asked Kling Image for a space portrait. It kept his face and beard and put him beside a round window with a planet glowing behind him. Every one of these took a single sentence.
To keep a face for later, save it in Character Studio and call it by @name in any prompt, or train a LoRA for a style of your own.

Lensa questions
What is a good alternative to Lensa?
Pixel Dojo turns one photo into styled portraits on Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2, Kling Image and Qwen Image 2, edits looks like a new haircut with a sentence, and can animate the result on top video models.
How much does Lensa cost?

Yes. Upload the photo, describe the style, and pick an editor. In our test three of four engines kept the man's face clearly recognizable from a single cafe snapshot.
Which engine keeps my face best?
In our oil portrait test Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2 and Kling Image all stayed true to the face. Qwen Image 2 changed it the most, so save it for artistic takes.
